Moment of silence for all my other platinum girls out there. The struggle to keep up with this hair is real. Once I started dying my hair platinum, my hair stylist told me to use purple shampoo to keep the brassiness out. (Completely life changing tip that I never knew until then). I started trying different brands to see what I liked best, so I wanted to share with you because there isn’t a ton of research on them. And I just had to find out for myself. I’ve tried numerous over the past couple years, and I honestly don’t remember all of them, but I’ll share the memorable ones.
My FAVORITE
Punky Colour Get the Yellow Out
Guys… this stuff is AMAZING. I’m not even joking every time I use this people ask if I just got my hair done. Results in just ONE WASH. I’m seriously obsessed. It takes the brassiness out to the point where if you leave it in for over 10 minutes your hair (and definitely scalp) may have a light purple tint for a couple days. I normally leave it in for up to 5 minutes. I mean, I could go three months without a dye job and still get the platinum look after I wash my hair with this.
Another one I liked
Tigi Dumb Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo
I saw results with this Bed Head, but it took a few washes or so before I started to really notice anything. It doesn’t act as strongly as the Punky Colour, but it still took out some brassiness and helped the platinum dye last a bit longer. It’s good for a more subtle look if your hair isn’t too overly yellow from the bleach.
Least favorite
John Frieda Sheer Blonde Color Renew Tone Restoring Shampoo
Maybe this one just didn’t work for me, but I had nonexistent results with this one. I really tried giving it a chance multiple times by leaving it in longer or using more but I never saw results. I was leaving it in 10+ minutes just to try to get any result. This is a more sheer, lighter purple and I’ve noticed I have more success with darker purple shampoos.
These are just a few I have used over the past year, and I’m still continuing to try new brands, so you will be seeing another of these posts eventually! Comment your favorite purple shampoos below, so I can try these for the next post!!!
